The Writing Squad exists to develop the next generation of writers in the North of England.

We are a development programme and a creative community.

We have always used tech to keep in touch, to build our network, to enable housebound or travelling writers to take part, and to share work.

This project is just one of several strands we slipped naturally into to continue working together, meeting and supporting each other.

Inspired by Mass Observation, the social research project that existed from the 1930s-50s, Squad writers have been recording their daily experience of the new world that began on 23rd March, 2020.

Without letting it define us, this is our response.
